Championing conversation and education to embed an inclusive culture
Today marks the start of National Inclusion Week 2020 created by Inclusive Employers. The aim of the week is to gain knowledge which inspires action within workplaces, throughout National Inclusion Week and beyond.
All of the team at CBS are excited to play a part in the Week, especially our Equality Champions; a team of volunteers who advocate for inclusion and equality as well as coordinating events and activities to raise awareness.
Each One Reach One
The theme of this year’s National Inclusion Week is Each One Reach One, encouraging individuals to embrace and share inclusion, inspiring others to get involved and connecting the inclusion chain.
One way to do that is by sharing an inclusion story. Our Equality Champions have shared their own personal and powerful stories with their colleagues to act as a catalyst for honest conversation around lived experiences of inclusion, diversity and bias. This had a powerful impact across the business.
We can also expand the inclusion chain by encouraging our colleagues to take part in the Week, so CBS have created a range of activities designed to explore and celebrate inclusion and diversity within our organisation. Our Equality Champions will be providing information to the CBS team each day to inform and support on five different areas relating to diversity and inclusion.
Furthermore, employees will be enrolled onto interactive online courses focused on a range of diversity related topics, designed to educate and encourage reflection on often difficult subjects.
Many of our employees are working virtually at this time, so it was difficult to create the kind of interactive events that we are used to. Knowing how much everyone at CBS loves food, we came up with the idea of online ‘cook-a-longs’ which will allow employees to enjoy culinary delights from different regions in their own homes.
Of course our inclusion efforts won’t end when Inclusion Week ends, and we will be continuing to embrace CBS’ diversity and inclusion journey. A survey at the end of the week will give all team members the opportunity to share their thoughts and experiences and allow their voices to be heard as we move forward with our D&I initiatives.
